NEBRASKA v LSU -1987 | Sugar Bowl
Date: | Info: 53rd Annual Sugar Bowl Classic ~ January 1, 1987
#6 Nebraska 30 (Final: 10-2-0, #5)
#5 LSU 15 (Final: 9-3-0, #10)
Benched early after a slow start, Nebraska's Steve Taylor came back on to lead the Cornhuskers to a spectacular 30-15 come-from-behind victory over LSU in the 53rd USF&G Sugar Bowl in front of 76,234 fans.
The underdog Tigers jumped to a 7-0 lead when Harvey Williams carried it in from the 1-yard line. Nebraska, however, came back to take a 10-7 halftime lead when Taylor re-entered the game with 1:42 to play in the second quarter and directed a 72-yard scoring march which culminated in his 2-yard TD run.
Nebraska opened the second half with a similar drive, highlighted by a 34-yard run by Tyreese Knox one play before he carried it into the end zone from the 1. The play of the Cornhusker defense was a big story, too. All told, the Black Shirts limited the Tigers to just 191 yards in total offense.
