ANNOUNCING THE FIRST ANNUAL SPARX FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT 7/30/2012 to 8/4/2012 - UPDATE 7/14/2012
This years tournament will be for the Class of 2018 or younger (boys OR girls going into 6th or 7th grade or younger). This will be a "SPARX Sanctioned"competition and it will be open to any and all players with better than average football skills.
Overall, the concept is to improve "SKILL POSITION" play. In otherwords, bring me your Quarterbacks, Running Backs, Receivers, Punters, Centers, and Kickers. I will make them better in time for High School play.
More information to follow.
As of now, the plan is to play 5 on 5 flag or touch football. I plan on integrating punting and kicking into the game.
This team is designed for players who have an interest in football and who would like to develop their skills in the game in a non-tackling environment.
This team is apt for players who play tackle football and for those who don't.
The goal is to develop interest in the game and to learn to love the game and, maybe, one day, participate in full contact tackle football, or not.
SPARX Sports is currently contemplating the creation of an SPSL Flag Football League which could be implemented for youth right up through the High School Level.
SPARX does not seek to influence contact footballers away from the traditional Tackle football experience and to the Flag Football modus operandi. It simply seeks to offer an alternative to those athletes (and parents) who love the game, but aren't ready for the tackling yet.
Full contact traditional football remains WDR's favorite sport. Guys that play in the NFL are amazing. We want to try to be that good, and to play that game. A goal of this competition is to assist us in achieving that unbelievable goal of playing High School, College, or Professional football some day.
But, if concussion research continues to illustrate the inherant dangers of the game, a non tackling alternative, such as Flag/touch Football, which simply replaces tackles with flag pulling, or a touch, may be the wave of the future. I can certainly envision High School, College, and Professional teams offering top notch flag/touch football play for Americans to play, watch and enjoy.
The team is designed in such a way as to allow for the athlete to participate in flag football as well as other sports at the same time.
